Changing behavior to prevent STDs/AIDS
Abstract
There is a growing body of evidence that theory-based behavioral interventions can effectively reduce risky behaviors that can lead to the acquisition and transmission of STDs/HIV. Despite the substantive uniqueness of any given behavior, there are only a limited number of theoretical variables that need to be considered in any attempt to produce behavior change. These variables are identified and two multi-site studies are described to illustrate how these variables can be used to guide the development of effective behavior change interventions in both community and clinic settings.
