Foundations of behavior therapy in the contemporary healthcare context

Abstract

The purpose of this review article is to provide an overview of behavior therapy. Both historical and contemporary perspectives will be addressed. Particular attention will be given to description of behavioral treatment interventions. Description of alternative treatment options, including psychopharmacology, will also be reviewed. The article will conclude with an examination of the importance of behavior therapy in the current managed care environment.
