An American in London: the revolution in British medical care
Abstract
The failings of the creaky British National Health Service have helped spur the growth of a healthy private insurance business but the country still lacks the sort of competitive, consumer-oriented business culture that is prominent in the U.S. The problems of the NHS beg for more American-style innovation, including such modernization as managed care, utilization review, and ambulatory care. Changes made in recent years will ease the path to such improvements.
