Recognizing the mental health needs of developmentally disabled people
Abstract
Many developmentally disabled persons and their families are being denied adequate mental health services. This problem exists because of the attitudes of mental health professionals and the structure of major agencies that serve the disabled. The author presents brief case histories that illustrate the types of stress experienced by the developmentally disabled and makes suggestions for therapeutic intervention.
