Are PPOs a competitive force or antitrust risk?

R J Enders. Healthc Financ Manage. 1986 May.

Abstract

The formation of PPOs is being encouraged as a procompetitive force in the healthcare marketplace. However, this encouragement is being cautioned with the prospect of possible antitrust violations. Although very few antitrust lawsuits have been filed, the risk still remains. PPOs are certainly a significant factor in today's healthcare field and eventually, more antitrust challenges will develop.
