Abstract

Background: In the late 1800s there was much confusion over the nomenclature and classification of persistent, very itchy vesiculo-bullous eruptions.

Objective: To review Dühring's contribution to clarifying this confusion.

Conclusion: By his detailed, perceptive, clinical, and histologic reports over many years, Dühring contributed greatly to organizing our clinical concepts of bullous disorders.
