Tuberculosis control in an urban Black community

Abstract
A tuberculosis case-finding survey of an urban Black community is described. The programme included health education of the community leaders, tuberculin testing of all scholars at the schools, and of the pre-school and non-schoolgoi ng children in their homes. The insignificant reactors to the tuberculin skin test were BCG-vaccinated. Isoniazid prophylactic therapy of the significant reactors was instituted and their contacts were radiologically investigated. The various results are to be found in the tables in the main body of this review.
