Transfer of E1 and V colicinogenic factors to Shigella flexneri
Abstract
From Escherichia coli strains, ColE1-ML and ColV-K94 factors were transferred to a virulent Shigella flexneri 2a strain at 1-2% frequency. S. flexneri ColV+ and ColE1+V+ produced Col- segregants. The ColE1 factor was stably incorporated into S. flexneri. The ColV+ culture lost its virulence to the guinea pig eye.
