Cytomegalovirus retinitis: pathogenesis and treatment options
Abstract
Background: While patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are displaying less cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis as a result of the use of a combination of anti-HIV medications, it still remains a serious threat to vision in this population.
Method: This review examines the nature of CMV infection, in general, and discusses the pathogenesis, clinical features, and treatment options for CMV retinitis, in particular.
