[Obesity: epidemiology and public health]

Abstract

Obesity is currently the most frequent nutritional disease in the world. In France, the prevalence of obesity is 8 to 10% of the adult population. This prevalence is increasing among children and adolescents. The World Health Organization considers that the current epidemic justifies prevention and management strategies adapted to local situations. "Recommendations for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of obesity" have been developed in France.
