Abstract

Summary: With increasing patient demands for esthetic dentition, composite resin restorations enjoy great popularity due to excellent esthetics, acceptable longevity, and relatively low costs. Shading concepts used by manufacturers, however, may be confusing to many clinicians.

Purpose: To review and describe the current main shading concepts, evaluate their potential for creating natural esthetics, and provide guidelines for application.
