NTZ: cryptosporidiosis new treatment
Abstract
AIDS: NTZ (nitazoxanide) has been used as a treatment for cryptosporidiosis, a parasitic infection traced to contaminated drinking water supplies. UNIMED Pharmaceuticals is conducting a compassionate access program in Mexico. The program is limited to thirty participants who meet strict participation requirements. In the United States, a small-scale study is recruiting in New York City and in San Francisco. Although the drug is inexpensive and has had positive results, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is limiting access due to safety concerns.
