Clinic has protocol for managing transgendered clients
Abstract
AIDS: The experiences and knowledge gained in treating HIV-infected transgendered patients at the HIV Outpatient Program (HOP) at Charity Hospital in New Orleans is discussed. The psychosocial concerns and advice for fostering good professional/patient relations with transgendered people in the health care setting are presented. Additionally, the issue of estrogen administration for male-to-female transgendered clients is discussed. A protocol for providers and an educational sheet for male-to-female transgendered clients are available. Contact information is provided.
