Abstract

AIDS: Although the future of AIDS research is unclear, there are several treatment issues that need to be addressed. One drug that is in development is T-20, an antiviral which may be especially useful to those who have HIV-1 or who have already undergone HIV treatment. Research is also underway to study the body's ability to fight HIV. In addition, measurement techniques are being developed to study the body's immune cell production and lifespan. Other treatment issues are discussed, such as the value of opportunistic infections prophylaxis and alternative or complementary treatments for the immune-suppressed population.
