Recent advances in plant response to mechanical stress: theory and application

C A Mitchell. HortScience. 1996 Feb.

Abstract

NASA: This paper reviews the types of mechanical stress that plants encounter, including natural environmental stresses (e.g., wind, rain, hail) and controlled mechanical stresses such as shaking and handling (as would be found in a greenhouse or controlled growth chamber), and reviews recent advances in understanding plant responses to these stresses. Studies on various plants are summarized and hormone involvement and signal transduction mechanisms are discussed in relation to plant responses to mechanical stress.
