Contractile properties of rat skeletal muscles after hindlimb unloading and beta-GPA administration
Abstract
NASA: Soleus and EDL muscles of rats were examined following hindlimb unloading. Some of the rats were given beta-GPA, a creatine analog which depletes high-energy phosphates in muscle tissue, in their food. The contractile properties and fatigue resistance of these muscles were studied, with and without incubation in calcium solution. The increased fatigue resistance after beta-GPA feeding was less in calcium-free solution.
