Note that at both the 5′ and 3′ ends, alternate EST positions are possible based on transcript variations or incomplete cDNA synthesis. The purple arrow indicates the MGC EST strategy in which 5′ ESTs are generated to search for full-ORF clones. ORESTES tags are shown by the green arrows, which are spaced more evenly throughout the cDNA sequence.
