Safety concerns and genetic engineering in agriculture
Abstract
KIE: Brill, a vice president of Agracetus, a biotechnology firm, and adjunct professor of bacteriology, focuses on the safety issues raised by the use of genetically engineered plants and microorganisms in agriculture. He also discusses ways of predicting the risk level of an organism that has received foreign genes. He concludes that organisms created by genetic engineering techniques are unlikely to be greater sources of environmental problems than those produced by more traditional agricultural breeding practices.
