Abstract

KIE: Proposed regulations issued by the Department of Health and Human Services concerning the care of handicapped newborns resulted in a legal challenge by the medical community and the modification of the regulations by the Department. This brief report summarizes executive branch involvement, the reaction of physicians to government intervention in the doctor patient relationship, and alternatives to federal regulation proposed by physicians and hospitals.
