Severe anaphylaxis outside the hospital setting: intramuscular adrenaline
Abstract
(1) Adrenaline is the reference treatment for severe anaphylactic reactions. (2) The intramuscular route is probably best for initial adrenaline treatment of severe anaphylactic reactions occurring outside the hospital setting. (3) Intravenous administration necessitates electrocardiographic monitoring, and subcutaneous adrenaline takes too long to act.
