Lidocaine: a neglected anticonvulsant?

Abstract

An elderly man had focal motor status epilepticus secondary to a frontal lobe hematoma. Phenytoin, phenobarbital, and diazepam did not stop the seizures. Intravenous lidocaine by bolus injection and continuous infusion rapidly controlled the seizures.
