The papule formation rate was based on a total of 243 sites from 116 volunteers who participated in human challenge trials prior to 1 January 2001. The pustule formation rate was based on a total of 220 sites that achieved a definite outcome (pustule or resolved) from 108 of the 116 volunteers.
