Consanguinity in Turkey in 1988
Abstract
PIP: The incidence of consanguineous marriage in Turkey is examined, with a focus on the impact of selected background variables. Data from the 1988 Fertility and Health Survey conducted by Hacettepe University are analyzed, and the results are compared with those from the 1983 survey in an attempt to determine how the rapid social change in the country during that period has affected the rate of consanguineous marriage. Factors considered include regional distribution, size of settlement place, birthplace, education, parental consanguinity, family-arranged marriage, age at first marriage, and payment of bride money.
