Chemical cervix obturation
Abstract
PIP: A new form of contraception, a cervical button consisting of acetylsalicylic acid at 3/5 the amount in a regular aspirin, was used by 40 women (aged 15-44) for 4 months. The composition of the pill mixes with the sperm and destroys their fluidity and mobility. The acidity which develops within minutes after placement remains at least 12 hours. Use of the button required careful attention on insertion so that it was firmly placed inside the opening to the uterus. Results showed 1) no changes in the menstrual cycle; 2) no pain; and 3) absence of irritation, burning, or blood (excellent tolerance). The patients showed extreme satisfaction with the method and no difficulties once the placement was mastered.
