Abstract

PIP: A report is presented on changes in the designation of SMSAs in the United States resulting from the new 1980 standards for establishing metropolitan statistical areas. Tabular data for 1970-1980 are included on the size of the U.S. metropolitan population, the 36 newly designated SMSAs, the fastest growing SMSAs, and new or modified consolidated statistical areas
