Teenage abortion patients and NHS family planning clinics: a survey of knowledge and attitudes
Abstract
PIP: 52 teenage abortion patients were interviewed in a survey of knowledge about and attitudes towards National Health Service (NHS) family planning clinics. Most of the subjects (96%) had heard of NHS clinics but considerably fewer (29%) were able to list their main functions and features. Only 1 person had received contraceptives from a clinic. 19 variables which might influence the decision to attend family planning clinics were rated by the majority of subjects as of little or no importance in deterring them from attending clinics in the past or future. Suggestions are made for improving communication and motivation to use clinics among the at-risk population.
