Abstract
PIP: The relationship between fertility and socioeconomic status in France is examined using official data. The author notes that the generations of women born between the two world wars have been more prolific than those that preceded them. A general convergence around the two- or three-child family is observed. Higher fertility is found among laborers and farmers and among those of the highest professional status. The effect of women's educational status on fertility is also discussed. (summary in ENG, SPA)
