Bulk of family planning appropriations concentrated in a few states
Abstract
PIP: State legislatures appropriated $21.8 million to state health and welfare agencies for family planning services in fiscal year (FY) 1975 compared with $14.4 million in FY 1974. Close to 90% of the FY 1975 total was concentrated in 9 states, with 16 states appropriating no funds at all for family planning during the year. Nearly half of the FY 1975 total is accounted for by California's $9.9 million appropriation. Nearly all of the increase over FY 1974 is made up of increases in California, Michigan, Georgia, Texas and North Carolina.
