Pericervical block with vacuum aspiration

D S Kamat et al. J Obstet Gynaecol India. 1979 Jun.

Abstract

PIP: A comparative study was undertaken to determine the relative advantages of the paracervical block and pericervical block as anesthetic for a 1st trimester induced abortion. The content and method of administration of the 2 types of anesthesia are described. Results of the study show that the pericervical block, using a mixture of lignocaine, Epidosin, and pitocin, causes easier dilatation of the cervix, less pain, minimal bleeding, and reduced additional side effects when compared to results with the paracervical block, using only lignocaine. The incidence of retained conceptus products was lower with the pericervical method. The abortion procedure was found to be safer and more complete with the pericervical than with the paracervical method. All study information is tabulated.
