Effect of Etamsylate on menstrual blood loss in women using IUDs

L Kovacs et al. Contracept Deliv Syst. 1980 Apr.

Abstract

PIP: A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study of 107 parous women wearing Szontagh-type IUDs is presented which investigated the usefulness of Etamsylate for control of menstrual blood loss associated with IUD usage. Parameters included cycle length, bleeding duration, and bleeding amount. There were no significant differences between Etamsylate and placebo groups in terms of cycle length. Duration of menstrual bleeding was significantly longer after IUD insertion, and was longest in the first postinsertion cycle. Bleeding was markedly shorter (P .001-.005) in treated groups. Amount of menstrual blood loss was significantly reduced by treatment after the first postinsertion cycle (P .001).
