Tuberculosis among the foreign-born in Canada

Abstract

Increasingly, reducing the burden of TB disease in Canada will depend on controlling the disease in foreign-born people. The foreign-born have a greatly elevated risk of TB disease within the first 2 years after arrival, but the risk of developing TB is still present for many years afterwards. Drug resistant TB is seen predominantly in this population but has not yet become a problem in Canada.
