Abstract

Methods and techniques of preoperative isovolaemic haemodilution in a district hospital are described. In 15 of 19 patients the retransfusion of autologous blood was adequate to compensate the intraoperative loss of blood after isovolaemic haemodilution. Fatalities of serious incidents were not observed. The performance of isovolaemic haemodilution presupposes the necessity of sufficient staff and technical equipment.
