Women's sexual health: an interdisciplinary approach to treating low sexual desire
Abstract
Hypoactive sexual desire is one of the most common sexual problems in women. This article describes an interdisciplinary, biopsychosocial model for assessing and treating hypoactive sexual desire in women. Developed at the University of Minnesota's Center for Sexual Health, the collaborative model can be implemented by physicians and other medical practitioners. This article focuses on the medical and psychopharmacological aspects of the approach and includes a brief description of the psychological treatment components. A key aspect of the approach is frequent communication and coordination of care among the team members, which enables all team members to reinforce all aspects of the treatment.
