Mechanism of U insertion and deletion editing in trypanosome mitochondria. Enzymes that carry out each of the steps in U insertion and U deletion editing in trypanosome mitochondria are shown. The site of preedited mRNA cleavage upstream of the anchor duplex is shown by a yellow triangle. Added Us are shown in red. Guide RNA domains are indicated, with the anchor region in blue, the guiding region in green, and the oligo(U) tail in orange.
