Study of the behaviour of the mumps virus in different cell culture systems
Abstract
The Enders reference strain of the mumps virus was cultivated on various systems (chicken embryonated eggs, chicken embryo fibroblast cultures, Vero cell cultures) to develop a model of preparing and controlling the production of the mumps vaccine in Romania. The results have proved that the monolayer of chicken embryo fibroblast is a suitable cell culture system for the multiplication of the mumps virus, and on the Vero cells the virus can be quantified just like the live measles vaccine.
