[Operative therapy of low back pain (author's transl)]
Abstract
The possibilities of operative therapy of low back pain are summarized. The correlation of the clinical symptoms and the pathological substrate is essential for a specific intervention. This implies risks to the vertebral column because of its complex innervation. Only exact clinical examination and history, the correct interpretation of radiographs and the possible consultation of photographs of function may - together with the psychically favorable attitude of the patient - lead to successful operation.
