Effect of gamma butyrolactone on the hypothalamo-neurohypophyseal system of the gerbil brain after ischemic injury
Abstract
The effect of exogenous gamma butyrolactone (GBL) on hypothalamo-neurohypophyseal system of the gerbil brain after ischemic injury was studied by electron microscopy. It was mentioned that GBL hasn't a protective action against ischemically induced injury. We postulate that neurosecretory process is slightly disturbed as a result of irreversible damage of some tissue elements; neurons of supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei, glial cells and axonal endings in neurohypophysis.
