Abstract

By using conventional electron microscopy, beta heterochromatin of polytene chromosome of Drosophila virilis was composed of 80-100nm chromonemas. Helical structures consisting of the 30nm chromatin fibres were identified in the chromonema. Based on these observations, the radial loop model and the multiple coiling model were discussed.
