[Favorable changes in alcohol-related mortality in a village in Bácska County]
Abstract
In 1987, in the first examined whole calendar year in the village the total mortality rate was very high, more than 60 per cent higher than the nationwide mean value and--by reason of direct observations and subsequent analysis--38.3 per cent of the total mortality was related by alcohol-abuse. Two years following significant changes occurred in the mortality structure by age, sex and cause of death, too. The statement, that the alcohol-related mortality decreased nearly by 50 per cent during the examined 3 years and this lead to the favourable tendencies in the mortality structure, were considerable buttressed indirectly by the data. In the discussion there is only reference to the local fight against alcoholism which was developed in 1987.
