Uterine devascularization and subsequent major intrauterine synechiae and ovarian failure

Abstract

Objective: To report a case of major intrauterine synechiae associated with ovarian function failure secondary to uterine devascularization.

Design: Case report.

Setting: Departments of gynecology and obstetrics in two hospitals in France.

Patient(s): A 29-year-old woman, para 1, presenting severe postpartum hemorrhage.

Intervention(s): Bilateral uterine, round ligament, utero-ovarian, and ovarian arteries ligation.

Main outcome measure(s): Clinical and hormonal status, computed tomography scan, hysterosalpingography, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and histological examination.

Result(s): Twelve months after uterine devascularization, the patient presented major intrauterine synechiae, absence of endometrium, and ovarian function failure.

Conclusion(s): Uterine devascularization may be responsible for infertility as a result of intrauterine synechiae and ovarian function failure.
