Abstract

This report describes the presenting signs, biochemical abnormalities, and radiographic changes in a 4-month-old kitten with vitamin D-dependent rickets type 2. Details of therapy are described and possible reasons for treatment failure are discussed.

Mediolateral radiographs of the shoulder (a) and stifle (b) and dorsopalmar radiograph of the carpus (c) of the affected kitten at four months of age. The physes are uniformly widened and flared; an appearance often described as ‘cup shaped’. The generalised bone density is decreased. All physes were similarly affected.
