A, In an intact hippocampus, the axons of dentate gyrus cells, or mossyfibers, project heavily to CA3 pyramidal cells. B, After an injection of KA, mossyfibers sprout into supragranular layer, where some axonal collaterals form potentially epileptogenic excitatory connections with granule cells.
