Abstract

The aim of therapy in all hypoparathyroid states is to restore serum calcium to levels sufficient enough to alleviate symptoms of acute hypocalcemia and to prevent the complications of chronic hypocalcemia and hypercalcemia. The main pharmacologic agents available are calcium and vitamin D preparations. In this review, we comment on the usage and management of these agents. Furthermore, prospective therapeutics are discussed.
