[Penile fracture: report of 4 cases]
Abstract
Objective: To inform practitioners about this rare condition and to emphasize the importance of surgical treatment.
Material and methods: Four patients were treated for penile fracture, by surgery in 3 cases and medically in 1 case. Surgery consisted of a longitudinal elective incision, followed by evacuation of the haematoma and suture of the tunica albuginea.
Results: These patients were aged between 19 and 42 years; 3 were single and 1 was married. The mechanisms of fracture were coital injury in 2 cases and masturbation in 2 cases. In the 3 operated patients, all lesions were transverse sections of the tunica albuginea. A good functional result was obtained in operated patients, but could not be evaluated in the medically treated patient.
Conclusion: The best treatment for penile fracture is surgery after a clinical diagnosis.
