Challenges of electronic medical record implementation in the emergency department

Abstract

Target audience: Physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who care for infants and children in the emergency department or in other ambulatory and acute care settings. In particular, physicians with administrative responsibilities will find this information useful.

Objectives: 1. Describe the purpose and scope of an electronic medical record. 2. Point out the unique demands that the emergency department places upon an EMR. 3. List the advantages and disadvantages of computerized charting.
