Acute liver failure (ALF) cases in the United States (US) attributable to acetaminophen (ACM) overdose. The US Acute Liver Failure Study Group (ALFSG) has identified an increasing incidence of ALF due to ACM between 1998 and 2004. Among the ACM-induced ALF cases, 48% were considered ‘nonintentional’ overdose cases wherein patients had taken excessive doses of ACM-containing products for medicinal purposes. Data provided by William Lee, MD, US ALFSG, December 2005
