Abstract

Purpose: To familiarize the practitioner with a variety of offloading devices by comparing their indications and application, and to present a literature review of device effectiveness.

Target audience: This continuing education activity is intended for physicians and nurses with an interest in better understanding and improving pressure offloading therapies.

Objectives: After reading this article and taking the test, the reader should be able to: 1. Describe indications for a cast walker and various inner soles. 2. Describe the indication and application of a total contact cast. 3. Choose an appropriate device based on wounds and deformities.
