Vacuolated pinealocytes in the hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus L.) and the mole (Talpa europaea L.)
Abstract
Special cells in the hedgehog and mole pineal gland which are characterized by an enormous single vacuole were studied. The presence of secretory granules (in the hedgehog) and of paracrystalline structures (in the mole) in the cytoplasm of these cells indicates that they are pinealocytes.
