The stochastic nature of gene expression revealed at the single-molecule level
Abstract
Two recent papers have monitored the real-time synthesis of proteins in vivo at the single-molecule level. The work was done by two separate methods: fluorescent protein labeling and enzymatic amplification. Statistical analysis of the data reveals the inherent stochastic nature of gene expression.
