[Asperger syndrome: diagnosis and treatment]
Abstract
Introduction and development: Asperger syndrome is a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by social impairments, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviours. It is not associated with delay in language development as others pervasive developmental disorders. Diagnosis should be made based on a complete clinical history and psychological assessment; specific diagnostic instruments are useful.
Conclusion: Asperger syndrome has no cure, but clinical features and those secondary to comorbid conditions could improve with an early diagnosis and correct individualized interventions.
